The Way of Ideas
Here are a few random pages & notes from The Way of Ideas, for flute, clarinet, violin and cello, just finished and sent off in the mail a few days ago. The Seattle Chamber Players will be premiering it on January 25, so you should definitely come check out the concert!
This was a challenging piece to write – at various times I felt quite lost by the lack of piano or other percussion instrument(s) to fill out the space. But in the end I think it turned out well, and I no longer feel as if anything is missing.
The title is inspired by a quote from The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman:
The idea hovered and shimmered delicately, like a soap bubble, and she dared not even look at it directly in case it burst. But she was familiar with the way of ideas, and she let it shimmer, looking away, thinking about something else.
When I chose this title, I had no idea the book was being made into a movie!!
