Mobtown Modern Podcast

Published by Alex at 10:42 am under inspiration, music, update

Those years working in public radio have finally come in handy! My podcast, or rather Mobcast, is available on the Mobtown Modern website, and on iTunes. It’s a little tour through my composition Tourmaline, which Brian Sacawa will be performing on Mobtown’s October 1 “Sound Ecology” program. Look forward to seeing you there!

Here are a couple of gems from the current reading, The Selected Correspondence of Aaron Copland:

To his parents, June 24, 1921 (from Paris),

I am gradually getting more accustomed to their way of doing things here. Think of it, I have never even seen a glass of milk since I left New York.

Can you see him bellied up to Ma’s kitchen table in Brooklyn, with a big glass of milk and a plate of cookies?! This one makes me smile too…

To his family, March 21, 1922,

I have signed a contract with Monsieur Senart, the publisher, who is going to bring out 2 of my compositions!!!! First a piano piece called a “Passacaglia” and then a song for voice and piano entitled “An Old Poem”. This, you must agree is a most gorgeous piece of luck which fell out of a clear sky.

Missing the days of letter writing big time!
